The Salix Alba company came into being in 1990. The first haversacks, bags and etuis designed were made of natural tarpaulin and leather. The first collection was prepared in 1992, consisting of a dozen or so models made of synthetic fabric of the Cordura type. It was then that we presented a wicker basket with a hem, as well as a rucksack with a heat-insulating pocket, which won the "Golden Scale" award at the Angling Fair in Warsaw. The market success of the wicker basket drew more attention to the needs of fly fishermen and spinning fishermen. Further models of baskets, wobbler containers, spinning belts etc. were created. The use of the new colour scheme, i.e. brown, green and maroon was very warmly welcomed by anglers and these are our "company colours" today. We draw special attention to our exquisite products made of leather and our wooden landing nets. At present we produce about 30 different models designed for all the angling disciplines.

In the late 1920s, a keen angler by the name of Bjarne Zachariassen lived
in Skien, Norway. He operated a small silver-plating company in Kverndalen.
With great zeal and enthusiasm, he experimented in his workshop with
different colours and sizes of lures which he produced himself. Practical tests were carried out in the Velevassdraget river system, where he rented a cabin together with a friend. After numerous trials and errors, they found
that bright lures with red dots were best for angling, and consequently
Sølvkroken Spesial no. 40 was born.
The company Sølvkroken was established in Skien in 1930. Spesial no. 40 immediately became a great success, and is still one of our best-selling
lures. The business expanded and needed larger premises, and in 1954,
Sølvkroken moved to the centre of Arendal. Sea fishing became increasingly
popular, and in 1976, the company built new and larger premises at Stoa
industrial park right outside Arendal, where we now are located.
Sølvkroken is currently a modern enterprise with approximately 60
employees. It is a leading total supplier of angling equipment. We are still
manufacturing our lures and jigs at Stoa. Several of our employees are keen
anglers who continually develop new and improved products. The production of
lures is, to a large extent, still a handicraft where decor, eye, hook and
split ring are assembled manually. |
