SALMO Lil'bug is a classic surface lure designed for targeting predatory fish feeding just beneath the water’s surface. During retrieve, the lure disturbs the top layer of water and creates a distinct V-shaped wake, allowing fish to clearly detect it against the sky, even in rivers with limited water clarity.
The specially designed body and built-in “wire shaft” casting system enable long and accurate casts, making it easier to reach distant current seams, shallow runs, undercut banks and overhanging trees. This is especially important when targeting cautious river fish from a distance.
The series includes two floating models in 2.5 cm and 3 cm lengths, both ideal for warm-season fishing when predators actively feed on insects and small prey from the surface. Lil'bug is particularly effective for chub, ide and asp, but it also performs very well for perch and trout feeding near the top.
The lure is armed with very sharp and durable treble hooks designed in Japan and manufactured under strict Japanese quality control standards, ensuring secure hooksets and reliable performance during the fight.
The retrieve technique is simple and effective. After casting, begin a slow and steady retrieve while holding the rod tip up, keeping the lure in the surface layer so it produces a visible V-shaped wake. As with other topwater lures, the hookset should be made only after feeling the weight of the fish on the rod.
