Guideline Fario Bronze is a new generation of fly reels developed specifically for trout, grayling and other salmonid species. The design combines low weight, a large arbor spool and a precise drag system that provides reliable control when fighting fish, even with fine tippets. Compared to the previous Fario LW series, Guideline has reinforced the construction and refined the drag mechanism while maintaining the lightweight feel and balanced performance appreciated by fly anglers.
The frame and spool are CNC-machined from 6061T aluminium. A reinforced central core and stronger spool construction improve rigidity and reduce flex under load. The optimized Large Arbor geometry features a 5% larger diameter and a 20% narrower spool compared to the previous generation. This design allows faster line retrieval, reduces fly line memory and improves line management during retrieval. A recessed reel foot positions the reel closer to the rod's centre axis, improving overall balance and reducing rotational torque during casting.
A key feature of the Fario Bronze is its fully sealed carbon drag system, delivering up to 1.2 kg of smooth and consistent braking force. The drag allows anglers to control powerful runs without sudden changes in resistance, which is particularly important when fishing with delicate tippets. The extended 630° adjustment range, equivalent to 1¾ turns of the drag knob, provides precise control over braking pressure. The sealed construction protects internal components from water and debris, while the updated internal layout makes maintenance, cleaning and conversion between left- and right-hand retrieve easier, without requiring tools.
The Guideline Fario Bronze series is available in three sizes. The ±4 model weighs 123 g and is designed for fly rods in line weights #3–5. The ±5 model weighs 128 g and suits rods in classes #4–6, while the larger ±6 weighs 130 g and is recommended for #5–7 rods. Spool capacities are optimized for modern WF fly lines with suitable backing reserves. This allows anglers to choose the right reel for everything from delicate trout fishing on smaller rivers to more powerful fly fishing setups.
The distinctive Bronze finish gives the reels a refined, understated appearance. Precision-machined surfaces provide a secure grip during operation, while the open spool design helps reduce weight without compromising structural strength. Each reel comes with a protective neoprene pouch that can also be used while the reel is mounted on the rod. Spare spools are available for all three sizes, making it easy to switch between different fly lines and fishing conditions.
